Permission to Rest

Matthew 11:28-29

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

We live in a culture that praises hustle and shames slowness. But God built rest into the very fabric of creation. Even He rested — not because He was tired, but because rest is holy.

Jesus didn’t invite the strong and capable to come to Him. He invited the weary. The burdened. The ones who are tired of carrying what was never theirs to carry.

Today, give yourself permission to lay it down. The world will keep spinning. God is still on the throne. And you are still loved when you are not producing.

Prayer

Lord, teach me to rest in You. Help me trust that You are working even when I am still. Refresh my soul today.

Reflect

  • 1.What burden are you carrying that Jesus never asked you to carry?
  • 2.What would a holy pause look like in your week?
