Ugly Crying

Psalm 34:18

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

This weekend was spent ugly crying. Not pretty, poetic tears — the kind that leave your face swollen, your pillow wet, and your heart feeling like it has been wrung out. And yet, looking back, it was exactly what was needed for healing.

We often think healing should be tidy. We want it to come with a clear timeline, a gentle epiphany, and a before-and-after testimony that sounds good on Sunday. But real healing sometimes starts in the messy place where we stop pretending and finally let the grief out.

Ugly crying is not a failure of faith. It is a surrender of the weight you were never meant to carry alone. It is the body and soul agreeing that some things need to be released before God can make them new. The tears you hide are the very place where He meets you first.

Sister, if you have been crying this weekend, know that the Lord is close to you. He is not waiting for you to get yourself together. He is right there in the broken pieces, collecting every tear and drawing near to your crushed spirit. The healing is already beginning.

Prayer

Lord, thank You that You do not run from my tears. Draw near to the brokenhearted today. Let the crying be a doorway to healing, and let me feel Your presence in the deepest places of my sorrow.

Reflect

  • 1.What pain have you been holding back that might need to be released through tears?
  • 2.How can you make space for God to meet you in your brokenhearted places this week?
